Why it's important to get a home assessment

There are a variety of factors that play into which wheelchair is right for you or your loved one and making a choice without taking all these into account could leave you with a chair that just doesn't meet your requirements. By having a home assessment, our wheelchair specialists can help take into account all your needs, including seeing where the chair will be used as this will directly impact what kind of wheelchair would be most suitable for you.

The home assessment is completely free and is designed to make sure you're getting the right wheelchair to meet your unique needs.

The majority of the wheelchairs that include our free home assessment are made to order. Meaning they're customised to your (or your loved one's) clinical needs and individual measurements.

What happens at a home assessment

Once you've submitted your request for your free home assessment, we will contact you to give you a consultation over the phone and arrange a suitable day for the assessment. During this phone consultation we will discuss the kind of wheelchair that you're thinking of, as this will help our specialist know what kind of wheelchair to bring with them to the assessment to demo for you.

During the assessment, our wheelchair specialist will bring one or more of the most suitable wheelchairs with them, as agreed on your consultation call. In most cases, you can sit in the different wheelchairs to try them out, giving you a better idea of how comfortable they are and if the design works for you. 

The specialist will discuss your expectations around the wheelchair and what your specific medical needs are to make sure you get the best wheelchair to meet your needs within your budget. They will also take your measurements and run through all the different customisation options available on the wheelchair (if relevant).

You'll be left with a quote at the end of the assessment, so you're under no obligation to buy the chair and will have time to decide if you want to proceed

Our wheelchair specialists wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and practice social distancing at all times to help protect themselves and you from Covid 19. If you have any questions or concerns, you can discuss these during your initial consultation call. 

At the moment, home assessments are only available in the UK mainland. If you want more information, please fill in the form and one of our team will be in touch.

On average, a home assessment lasts around two hours. However, this may vary depending on your medical needs and requirements.

Not at all. It can sometimes be helpful to have an idea but our specialists will discuss this with you during the initial consultation call to narrow down suitable options.

It can take 0-6 weeks for the wheelchair to arrive. The time taken depends on how much customisation has been added and if your chair is being made to order. When they give you your quote, our wheelchair specialists will be able to give you a better idea of what the timescale may be.

Once it arrives, one of our wheelchair specialists will arrange to deliver it to you, so they can help set it up correctly for you.

No. The home assessments are designed for more bespoke manual or powered wheelchairs. The specialist wheelchairs that qualify for a free home assessment have the home assessment request form on their product description page.
