How to choose the right kitchen aids

How to choose the right kitchen aids

If you enjoy cooking and baking but have a health condition which limits your ability to do this effectively, the right kitchen aid could help you continue your passion in a safe manner.

Kitchen aids cover a wide variety of products, which are designed to help you prepare food independently if you’re living with a physical disability, such as the use of only one hand or a vision impairment. Some of our most popular kitchen aids include:

In addition, we also offer a number of choppers, peelers, graters, slicers and more – all of which are available to view within our “Food Preparation” section.

Remember
By choosing the right equipment to suit your needs, you can continue to enjoy cooking and baking independently, whilst maintaining a safe environment in the kitchen.

Why would you need to use a kitchen aid?

If you, or someone you care for, are finding it difficult to prepare meals safely you may want to consider using a kitchen aid to make things easier.

There are a number of reasons why you may need additional help when preparing food for yourself and others:

  • You’re living with a vision impairment, making it harder to read the correct measurements for your recipe
  • You only have use of one hand, which makes it difficult to prepare ingredients
  • You have swelling in your hands and fingers, causing pain when lifting heavy objects, such as a pan of boiling water

Remember
It is important to consider your own personal mobility needs when choosing a kitchen aid. Many of our aids are ideal for one handed use, but others are more suited for those with limited wrist or hand movement, or a vision impairment.

Things to consider

A useful product like the Talking Kitchen Scale with Easy to See Measuring Jug will enable you to measure out ingredients more accurately thanks to the large numbers on the side of the jug and digital talking scale with a clear male voice.

If you’re living with painful joints, a Cooking Basket is a great alternative to picking up a heavy pan of boiling water and risking potential spills and burns. Similarly, if you have limited mobility in your hands and wrists, an Easi Grip Contoured Handle G/Purpose Knife can reduce the pressure on your joints whilst cutting, making food preparation more comfortable.
