Why have an assessment with an Occupational Therapist?

Why have an assessment with an Occupational Therapist?

It's never too early to get an assessment from an Occupational Therapist. Getting help and advice now could help to prevent falls in the future and keep your loved one in their own home for longer. Changes made early following an assessment could help avoid emotional challenges in the future by keeping your loved one safe and more independent in their own home.

The Home Living Consultation costs £79 (zero rated for VAT).

For more information, read our frequently asked questions below, fill in the form, or call one of our team on 0345 646 1861.

How the Home Living Consultation works

  1. Fill in the request form or purchase an assessment directly using the button below
  2. One of our team will be touch to make sure this service is right for you, then the appointment will be made and payment will be taken (if you haven't already paid)
  3. You'll be sent out the appointment information with details on how to join the video call (this will vary depending on what video call service you've chosen to use, e.g. WhatsApp, Zoom, Teams, FaceTime etc.)
  4. The assessment will be performed by a qualified Occupational Therapist, registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). It's the same assessment you would receive from the NHS, just performed remotely. It will look at what the person being assessed can and can't do, and what their goals are, evaluating what needs to be done in order to achieve these (where possible)

Frequently asked questions

This consultation covers ways to help with physical disabilities for those over the age of 18. It's primarily aimed at those who aren't already speaking with/under assessment with an Occupational Therapist through their local council although we are happy to give a second opinion, should you need one.

The Home Living Consultation costs £79 (zero rated for VAT).

Yes, we would welcome that. But try and keep it to 1-2 people max so we can make sure the focus is on the person being assessed, as it should be.

You'll need a smart device that can accept video calls and is portable enough to carry around, so it can't be done using a desktop computer. A smart phone or a tablet device would be best but a laptop also works if you (or the person with you) can carry it round.

During the consultation, the Occupational Therapist will:

  • Discuss the challenges the person faces in getting around
  • Evaluate the environment they live in
  • Work with them to understand their goals and how they can be achieved

After the consultation, the Occupational Therapist will send you a report containing all their findings and recommendations.

Our consultations won't cover moving and handling plans or any major adaptations. This is because these are detailed services that in our professional opinion would both need a physical home visit.

A consultation will take approximately one hour. After the consultation is complete, you'll receive your report with recommendations within two weeks.

Consultations usually take place on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays between 8:30am to 4:30pm. There are some evening consultations available by negotiation, you will be able to discuss this when you receive your call from us.

No, although it may be useful to have a tape measure to hand in case precise measurements are needed during the consultation.

Our Product Advice Service is a free service where you can ask about an individual product and if it's right for your needs. The Home Living Consultation goes beyond this, offering more advice and recommendations. It assesses the person as a whole, rather than just looking at if a single piece of equipment would work.
